154 Israeli and Russian couples were married at the same time in Larnaca in an attempt to break the world record. The couples arrived with their friends and relatives to Larnaca on a ship from Haifa on Sunday and were taken to Larnaca’s Medieval Castle by bus where the ceremony was conducted in both English and Russian. The ages of the couples varied, in the oldest, the groom was 87 and the bride 93 and the youngest bride was just 17 years old. Originally 170 couples were planning to get married but in the end only 154 made the trip therefore the current world record of 163 weddings in 24 hours wasn’t broken. Hundreds of Israeli couples come to Cyprus every year for their wedding ceremony because mixed-faith weddings are not allowed in Israel.
