Nine “Green” waste collections locations will be constructed in Nicosia district which will contribute to achieving the objectives of the EU’s Waste Framework Directive on waste (recovery, recycling, reuse, prevention). The Directive aims to protect public health and the environment, and improve the conditions of sustainable development.
A Green spot is an area where recyclable materials and special categories of waste can be protected. The sites will be fenced, and set up to collect waste, delivered by individual citizens or during organised events by the Local Authorities. The Interior Ministry, announced that after an open public tender, signed on Tuesday the contract for the implementation of the project which will cost 2.9 million euro.
