Voting ended as planned at 18:00 and the first results are already coming out. 60 candidates competing for 6 positions and for the first time some of them were Turkish Cypriot. Moreover for the first time over 50,000 Turkish Cypriots holding IDs of the Republic of Cyprus that have registered as votes were able to vote at a purposely set-up voting centre near Ledra palace in Nicosia. The record low attendance at the voting centres is mostly attributed to the lack of trust for the political parties, politicians and the performance of the government the past few years.
