The past 48 hours Cyprus has been experiencing the lowest temperatures recorded for the past year. During Friday night snowfall has been recorded even at the outskirts of Nicosia, a very rare phenomenon; while at the peak of Troodos (Olympus), the height to snow reached 180cm, a record for the past 15 years. It is expected that tonight the temperature at Troodos will reach as low as -7° but according to the meteorological services temperature is expected to gradually increase after Monday.
The roads in the mountainous areas are slippery and the police is recommending that drivers should be extremely cautious, drive slowly and keep proper distances to avoid accidents.
