The Health Minister, Christos Patsalides, assured yesterday the Parliamentary Committee on Health & Environment that there is no reason for concern at the moment for any effects on human health or the environment from the explosion at Mari. Mr Patsalides stated that he holds a list of the explosives which were stored in the containers and according to that there is no reason for public concern. He also added that a study was conducted in the area to confirm it and that it is now beyond any doubt that there will be no long-term impact on the environment or humans. Results from further specialised analysis are also expected and will be made public as soon as they are available. He also explained about the issues of radioactivity and depleted uranium which was concerning the public since last week’s event, and concluded that nothing was found to indicate that any radioactive material was stored in the containers.
