The European Court of Human Rights has yesterday set the compensation amount that must be paid to Costas Kalisperas who along with 28 other Greek Cypriots took the case of being deprived of their properties since the 1974 Turkish invasion, to the European Court. The ruling was made in September 2009 and found Turkey guilty of violating the right to respect for private and family life and violating the right of property, on account of the applicants deprivation of their home and properties. Costas Kalisperas is to receive 1.3 million euro and Turkey will also have to pay an extra 15000 euro to cover the trial expenses.
