The first wind farm to operate in Cyprus was launched yesterday in the presence of the the president of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias. The farm located between the Kouklia and Archimandrita villages in Paphos, consists of 41 wind turbines capable to produce 8% of the electricity used on the island and at the same time cut down our carbon dioxide emissions by 19,000 tones per year. At his speech the president said that Cyprus is on a good path regarding renewable energy production with another 5 wind farm projects are in the works with combined output of 75mW, plus significant increase in use of photovoltaic based systems.
