There has been an increase in the number of checks and the number of fines issued for smoking in closed public spaces during last month. In 3762 checks, 509 fines were issued, 3 cases were taken to court. 203 of them were the actual owners of the premises. 375 were Cypriots, 137 were foreigners, 411 men and 101 women.

The police said that frequency of checks will increase as the Easter holidays approach.
