Police spokesman, Michael Katsounotos said that shortly after 10:00am on Friday, the housekeeper of the Honorary President of EDEK Vassos Lyssarides went to his office, where she found his 71 year old personal assistant. The housekeeper, managed stab six times, the 71 year old, in the neck and chest with a cooking knife. The second private assistant of Mr Lyssarides intervened to stop her and finally managed to do so with the help of a passer-by. The maid was eventually transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Nicosia, where was examined by a psychiatrist and held for mandatory hospitalization.
