In the strongest terms the President of the Republic, before the German Chancellor, made clear that the investigations of Cyprus to explore and exploit natural gas will continue. At the same time, has told Ankara that it has no right to intervene to stop the investigation.
When questioned about the subject by a German journalist the President sent a clear message to Ankara, calling Turkey’s logic on the matter absurd; explaining that Turkey’s policy should stop if it wants to and is deemed to be a modern state which wants to join the European Union. Moreover regarding Turkey’s argument that Turkish Cypriots will not benefit, the president said that it will take at least a few years of research and exploration before any profit is made, if all these years Turkey continues to refuse a solution to the Cyprus problem, Cyprus cannot be held prisoner and not exploiting the mineral wealth that might exist in its sea area.
