‘You are not a Cypriot’ mixed-race child told by teacher

A primary school headmaster is being investigated for alleged racist behaviour against a child of mixed parentage at his school, revealed Education Minister Andreas Demetriou yesterday. (cyprus-mail.com).

‘I am a Cypriot sir’.

‘You are not Cypriot, you are a Filipino and a Filipino you will remain’.

How fortunate this child this. To be raised by parents of intermarriage, he will learn two and possible three languages prior to the age of 5. He will benefit from the knowledge of perhaps two recognised religious faiths, he will be open to reasoning, have a fairer sense of humanity and hopefully never be bound by the limitations of narrow-minded, zenophobic bigots such as this inhumane teacher who has no right to be in a class teaching young impressionable children. Cypriots are so ashamed of their own beautiful and unique culture, the majority of them identify themselves by the language they speak and the faith they practise not realising that their own heritage is unique and precious be it bound by integration from numerous cultures, a time way before the Hellas ever landed here.
